My working method
If all goes well, we have already had the chance to meet each other—whether via Zoom or perhaps during a walk in the forest. If that was a long time ago, we have surely stayed in touch in the meantime because building that personal connection is what I strive for!
What to expect?
Personal meeting
I usually schedule a preliminary conversation about 3 to 4 weeks before the wedding. This ensures that our personal discussion remains fresh in my mind and that I am up to date with the latest developments. 😉
If there are guests who would like to give a speech during the ceremony, I certainly encourage it. However, my recommendation is to have no more than two speakers during the ceremony; ideally, you don’t want the ceremony to last longer than an hour. I will get in touch with the designated speakers to understand the content of their speech so that their stories seamlessly fit into the ceremony.
How long does a ceremony typically last?
The duration of the ceremony without speeches is usually around 45 minutes. However, if two guests are giving speeches, you can expect the ceremony to last about an hour. A ceremony with multiple speeches can often run over time, so it’s helpful to give speakers a maximum speaking time. If that’s not preferred, an alternative moment for speeches—such as during dinner—might be a better option. Especially if you are also exchanging vows, having additional speakers during the ceremony might be overwhelming.
The wedding day
On the day itself, I always arrive 45 minutes to an hour in advance. This gives me enough time to go over all the details with the master of ceremonies, check the sound system, and discuss the musical cues. I ensure everything is in place and verify the latest version of the schedule with the master of ceremonies, any speakers, as well as the wedding planner and venue manager. I will also be present to welcome your guests and introduce myself to your parents and witnesses. The arrival of guests is always the perfect moment for me to observe and recognize who is who!
Contact with the master of ceremonies & other speakers
Prior to the ceremony, I always connect with the master of ceremonies to discuss any special requests, questions, or surprises. Additionally, I reach out to any other speakers or witnesses who have prepared a speech for the ceremony. I ensure that their speeches align well with my own storytelling, creating a seamless and cohesive ceremony.
Registering a personal wedding officiant (not from the municipality itself)
Are you getting legally married on the same day? Then you must apply for a personal wedding officiant (Eigen Babs).
Read everything about the Personal wedding officiant application with the municipality where your wedding will take place. Please note that there are costs associated with this process.
Ceremonial marriage
You can also opt for a ceremonial wedding! If you prefer to avoid these costs, you can choose to have a ceremonial wedding and legally marry on a Monday/Tuesday morning or a weekday at the Town Hall. Does that sound unappealing? Think again! In addition to significant cost savings, ceremonial weddings come with some fun advantages!
